Goddess of the Sun v2.0 by selie
Goddess of the Sun v2.0
I drew my first Sun Goddess picture several years ago and it seems like people still like it! I thought it might be fun to revisit the same idea but with a slightly better sense of anatomy and form (and coloring, I think?).

Pencil sketch, colored using the GIMP.
Songs and Magic (Cover for 2015 Birthday EP) by selie
Songs and Magic (Cover for 2015 Birthday EP)
I told you all my art lately has been for music stuff! This is for another birthday EP, with my new music logo and stuff.

You know the drill; all the pictures relate to a song on the album. A Starman from Earthbound/MOTHER (for the title track "Pollyanna/I Believe in You"); Sgt. Joe from Suikoden III (for the Alma Kinan theme, "Mysterious People"); Chu-Chu from Xenogears (for "Bonds of Sea and Fire"); that creepy rabbit from Silent Hill 4 (for "Room of Angel" -- note that I haven't played this game because scary things give me nightmares); and finally Bub from Bubble Bobble (for the main NES theme).

I'm really proud of this album because I feel like my recording and mixing skills have come a long way over the years, and it was also nice to pull together cover art with some special effects.

Worlds of Light and Darkness (EP cover art) by selie
Worlds of Light and Darkness (EP cover art)
This one wasn't actually a birthday EP. I had a number of requests through a Kickstarter my old band ran to fund our final album. Once I'd finished recording all the requests, I compiled them in one free EP. As always, the artwork reflects what's on the EP.

You can see Flammie from Secret of Mana (for Angel's Fear); the Wind Fish from Link's Awakening (for Ballad of the Wind Fish); a Rydia costume for Final Fantasy IV (for Rydia's theme); a fairy from Link to the Past (for the Credit Roll); and ANOTHER fairy from Ogre Battle (for Viking Spirits). I think the theme for this one was "what flies in those games?" and I was originally going to draw Link holding onto a flying chicken for dear life, but it didn't fit my general melodramatic nature.

These have open spaces because I left room for title text and that sort of thing.

Not Some Opera Floozy (Cover for 2014 birthday EP) by selie
Not Some Opera Floozy (Cover for 2014 birthday EP)
Every year for my birthday, I release a free EP of music I've made over the past year. For 2014, I branched into a lot more singing, including the aria from FFVI. So that's the title track (of sorts) on this thing, and that's why I'm dressed as Locke. That was also my Halloween costume in 2013, so it's fitting!

If you look in the background, you can see items that represent every single game that appears on the EP: Gyoro and Ururun from Star Ocean 2 (for Pyroxene); Samus's helmet from Super Metroid (for Lower Brinstar); the Black Sword Rune and Bright Shield Rune from Suikoden II (for Reminiscence); a statue of Alis Landale holding Elsydeon from Phantasy Star IV (for Her Last Breath); a Flammie Drum from Secret of Mana (for A Wish/Crystal Forest); and Ultros and a Locke costume for Final Fantasy VI (for Aria de Mezzo Carattere).

Album Cover, Immune to Silence by selie
Album Cover, Immune to Silence
Yeah, so most of the art I do these days is for the band. Here's an example: the cover art for our first album. This took me ages and ages. Each figure was colored individually and then placed in a single giant file that nearly killed my poor laptop. But I finished it eventually. The figures on the right are band members (that's the front of the album) dressed as roleplaying archetypes. I'm a red mage/bard! On the left is the enemy army we're fighting. And of course there's a phoenix overhead because our logo is a phoenix and I'm obsessed with Final Fantasy VI.

You can hear the album here if you're into video game music and other nerdy things:

So yeah! I don't even know what people say in their image descriptions these days. I could ramble more about the characters or the figures or the drawing process or what, but I'm just going to leave it at this for now :)

Journal History

Oh my goodness. I have a deviantArt account. I kind of forgot about it >.>

I've actually been doing a whole lot of art lately, but it's all been either for my solo flute VGM covers or for my new band, The Returners. (I'm the band leader and the flute player and the singer.) I also enrolled in an MFA program for creative writing. Music and writing claim most of my creative energy these days. It's pretty all-consuming, but I love it. We played PAX South a few weeks ago and we're going to Florida for a "mini-tour" this coming weekend. And I've been working on a novel for school and I should probably draw characters from it, too. In my copious free time.

Anyway, hello! Are you all still out there? Do you still read this? Should I put up some more artwork?

... can we change our names on dA? Because I don't really go by Selie anymore. Haven't for years...
  • Listening to: video game music

Things with me are pretty good, I've taken a lot of time off for drawing and now I have a job interview on Wednesday so that should be fun XD

I notice you haven't been on much, been busy? :)

I heard that you ran a MMX game.

What system is it based off of?
Raiu1994 Featured By Owner Nov 10, 2012
You did really well then. Sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner.

I don't suppose you would be cross to running this again...

What am I saying, most likely this was an IRL game. Sorry about that.

I don't know that the system itself was very good - it was a lot of smoke and mirrors on my part (though don't tell my players!) for the sake of a super dramatic story. Also, the players were animal reploids rather than X or Zero (who I thought would be too overpowered to really play in the system). I don't know if that would be relevant to what you have in mind - but I'll be happy to give you some tips if you want. I just don't know how useful or sound my system would be.
